Ski Fall 2

Acrylic on cloth canvas

2024

This acrylic work features a ski-lift pylon, out of service since 2015, a silent witness to the changes at the resort of Torgon, a small village in the Valais. More than a simple representation of an abandoned object, this pylon evokes the effects of climate change on our alpine landscapes. Global warming is leading to a gradual decrease in snowfall, making it increasingly difficult to maintain certain winter sports infrastructures. Using a technique of acrylic flat tints, geometric shapes and some of my favorite hues, I sought to illustrate the gradual decline of places that were once lively, but are now frozen by climate change. This work questions our relationship with nature, the human impact on the environment, and the fragility of mountain ecosystems.
